QUESTIONMany art collectors and fans have inquired about commissions, and whether or not I am available to take them on. The answer is ...

Yes, I am!

You can contact me concerning commissioning artwork at dan@nocturnals.com.

Look at the commissioned art I've got in my GALLERIES (there are also pics on this page).

Here's a run down of the typical work I've done for private collectors:

Quick-and-dirty watercolor

Quick-and-dirty watercolor and pencil on 8.5x11 plain paper sketch.

The Pin-Up

This is usually a 10x13 inch color piece featuring the character of your choice in my chosen medium of watercolor.

Painting

This one is usually 11x17 inches and in full color. It includes one or two characters of your choice. Plus, it includes a more finished background.

The Sketchbook Piece

I will do one character in full painted color in your sketchbook. I usually like to do a double-page spread, but it depends on the composition, etc.

Illustration

This is anywhere from 12x18 inches to 13x20 inches. It is a full color painting. With this commission type, it can be more involved and detailed, especially in terms of adding more figures! Plus, I'm open to more art direction. You may have something specific in mind that we can discuss. Or, you might just want a bigger piece with more going on in it.

PRICES

For prices, you can contact me. Also, depending on my work load, the piece could take anywhere from one month to six. The usual wait is two months.

I ask for full payment in advance or split into two payments, one up front and the other upon completion. We can discuss these arrangements further via email.

At this time, I don't accept credit cards for commissions, but I hope to at some point in the next six months.

I can accept money using PayPal

All pieces are on standard 2PLY Bristol board. Please specify if you want your commission signed or personalized.

In certain instances, you may be asked to provide reference of the character you're asking for.

The buyer is purchasing the physical artwork only, not the reproduction or publishing rights! The copyright and trademark for each work belongs to the artist, and/or the publisher that might own a particular character (i.e., Batman, Elektra, Edward Scissorhands, etc.).

Reproduction of the work is expressly forbidden, except in the instance of showing the piece off on your personal web page at a resolution not higher than 72 dpi. I kindly request that if you do run the piece on your site that you include a link to my site. The URL is http://www.nocturnals.com/ and you can find nice link icons on the GOODIES page if you want to use those.

Commissions are done in the order in which they are received. I keep track of who's next on the list and will keep in touch with you. I'll let you know when I've started the piece and when it's done. I get just as jazzed about getting you your piece as you are anxious to have it!

Delivery takes place anywhere from a week to two weeks after completion of the piece. Iusually need to scan or shoot a transparency of the piece after it's done. If you have access to having a transparency shot, you can get your piece a little faster by arranging to have the piece shot on your end. This is by no means a requirement!

At least half of the payment must be received before I'll start on a piece. The second payment needs to be received before the finished art is shipped. You're always better paying the full balance in advance, and it is preferred, but it's not a requirement to pay all at once.
